Pharma Information Centre (PIC)

With the rapid advancement of computers and the internet, access to information has grown exponentially. Recognizing the increasing need for accurate, up-to-date, in-depth and unbiased scientific information, the Trust established the Pharma Information Centre (PIC) in 1999.

The Centre was formally inaugurated on 5th September 1999 by Prof. A. Kalanidhi, Vice Chancellor of Anna University. Since its inception, PIC quickly evolved into a vital resource hub, catering to the information needs of pharmaceutical industry professionals, researchers, students and medical and allied healthcare practitioners.

Initially functioning within the premises of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PMA), the Centre later moved to its own dedicated facility. It was equipped with comprehensive resources including pharmacopoeias, medical and pharmaceutical reference books, journals and access to reputed healthcare databases such as Micromedex, Ovid, and IDIS. The Centre also provided high-speed internet access for efficient research and information retrieval.

To further strengthen its resource network, PIC established collaborations with Drug Information Centres (DIC) at JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, and the Karnataka State Pharmacy Council, Bangalore. Additionally, the Trust partnered with QMed Services, Mumbai, to provide researchers in Chennai with access to full-text articles and scientific documents at concessional rates.

Over time, with the widespread availability of digital resources and personal computing devices, the role of PIC has evolved. While its earlier activities have reduced, the Centre continues to serve as a valuable reference point for essential pharmaceutical literature.
